Professor Jon Williamson and Dr Juergen Landes, both from the Department of Philosophy, are organising ‘progic 2015’, a workshop on combining probability and logic.
The event, hosted by the Centre for Reasoning, will be the seventh instalment in the progic series. The workshop will particularly focus on connections between formal epistemology and inductive logic, asking such questions as: can inductive logic shed light on epistemological questions to do with belief, judgement etc.? Can epistemological considerations lead to a viable notion of inductive logic?
Invited speakers include: Professor Richard Bradley (LSE), Professor Dorothy Edgington (Birkbeck College, University of London), Professor John Norton (University of Pittsburgh), and Professor Jeanne Peijnenburg (University of Groningen).
Submissions for presentations are invited; please send two-page abstracts to Juegen Landes.
There will also be a special issue of the Journal of Applied Logic devoted to the themes of the workshop. When submitting abstracts, please say whether you intend to submit your paper to the special issue on this topic.
The deadline for submission is 1 November 2014. Notice of acceptance of papers for presentation is hoped to be given by 1 December.
The workshop will be preceded by a two-day spring school with introductory lectures on the themes of the workshop. For full details of the workshop, please see the page here: www.kent.ac.uk/secl/philosophy/events/
