Over the Easter period, Dr Chris Deacy, Reader in Theology and Religious Studies from the Department of Religious Studies, took time out to write for the Kent on Sunday newspaper about biblical adaptations for TV and cinema.

The article is offers a timely look at the latest Hollywood biblical epic, Noah (2014), directed by Darren Aaronofsky, alongside scholars Rudolph Bultmann and Adele Reinhartz. Chris concludes, ‘any film about a 600-year-old patriarch (Russell Crowe certainly makes him look youthful) should never be seen as an accurate or definite rendering of the Biblical story, and it is all the more creative and inspiring for that.’

Chris’s piece is accompanied by a brief look at other Biblical epics, including The Ten Commandments (1956), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (1968), Jesus of Nazareth (1977), The Prince of Egypt (1998), and The Passion of the Christ (2004).

The issue is available as an online magazine, and can be found on pages 24-25 here:
