Here&#8217;s a look back at an epic year in stats! <\/p>\n<p>As a treat we&#8217;ve compiled the best statistics across our School, as well as our best blogs and stories of 2022.<\/p>\n<h2>SAC-Wrapped 2022!<\/h2>\n<p>408 humans participated for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8017\/bioblitz22-a-record-number-of-species-and-a-first-ever-sighting-in-kent\"><strong>BioBlitz22<\/strong><\/a>, where 290 different species were recorded (46 more species than BioBlitz 2021).<\/p>\n<p>Our most viewed Insta Reel at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/Cikkwxkjutn\/\"><strong>49.6K views<\/strong><\/a> featured Disk-winged Bats deep in the Costa Rican jungle.<\/p>\n<p>There are 4.5 wild <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk\/wilderblean\"><strong>bison<\/strong> <\/a>now living in Blean Forest in Kent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8469\/i-get-by-with-a-little-help-from-150-friends\"><strong>150<\/strong><\/a> is the maximum number of people we can maintain meaningful social relationships with in our lifetimes.<\/p>\n<p>We had 4 graduations this year, celebrating the Class of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7605\/belated-celebrations-for-our-2020-graduates\"><strong>2020<\/strong><\/a>, <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7783\/celebrating-the-class-of-2021\"><strong>2021<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8618\/youre-a-class-of-2022-act\"><strong>2022<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We went to 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7937\/sex-bugs-and-rock-n-roll-at-glastonbury-festival\"><strong>festivals<\/strong><\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>We wrote 116 blogs this year and 5 of them were about<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/Conservation Biologist Steve Allain wins Prestigious National Wildlife Award\">Snake Steve<\/a>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With one blog, it was love at first read: our most read blog was about <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7329\/study-emphasises-viability-of-the-intriguing-captive-group-of-moroccan-royal-lions-to-support-conservation\">Moroccan Royal lions<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>We explored many categories, but here were our top 5:<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8801\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/files\/2022\/12\/2.png\" alt=\"piechart\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Our year can&#8217;t be contained in a playlist (of blogs), but we tried anyway.<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7349\/economics-of-sustainability-with-professor-madhavi-venkatesan\"><strong>January<\/strong><\/a> we learnt about the Economics of Sustainability<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7485\/the-link-between-cocaine-and-violence-in-football\"><strong>February<\/strong><\/a> brought social bonding, cocaine, and disorderly behaviour at football matches<\/li>\n<li>We kept safe in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7517\/women-in-conservation-keeping-safe-in-the-field\"><strong>March<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Sometimes it snows in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7629\/sometimes-it-snows-in-april\"><strong>April<\/strong><\/a>..<\/li>\n<li>We Mapped Urban Resources in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7773\/mapping-urban-resources-and-kitchen-square\"><strong>May<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7966\/can-robotics-help-us-achieve-sustainable-development\"><strong>June<\/strong><\/a> we thought about robots<\/li>\n<li>We inspired future generations in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8090\/8090\">July<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8153\/dental-biorhythm-is-associated-with-adolescent-weight-gain\"><strong>August<\/strong><\/a> we researched teeth<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8257\/hands-fingers-knees-and-feet\"><strong>September<\/strong><\/a> we spoke about hands, fingers, knees and feet<\/li>\n<li>The Climate Anxiety Support Group saved us in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8402\/eco-anxiety-in-the-age-of-climate-change\"><strong>October<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>We stepped into the Dragon&#8217;s Den in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8589\/dragons-den-training-to-tender-for-a-research-project-with-the-green-infrastructure-framework\"><strong>November<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li>And in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CmGqT09OM6V\/\"><strong>December<\/strong> <\/a>we got hygge with moss balls and baubles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Animals<\/h2>\n<p>Whilst in Costa Rica, our final year students encountered animals that we don&#8217;t see around Kent! Our students did Caiman Surveys, Morning Turtle Census, Night Turtle Patrol, and tracked Jaguar prints &#8211; they fell asleep to croaking frogs and woke up to roaring howler monkeys. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8250\/im-a-conservationist-get-me-in-there\"><strong>Jess Callaghan<\/strong><\/a> hung out with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/Cikkwxkjutn\/\">bats<\/a> <\/strong>and capuchins at 7am!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8803\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/files\/2022\/12\/spotify-wrapped.png\" alt=\"spotify wrapped\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We clearly have an affinity to mammals. Sorry bugs.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 30px\">Oh, the Places You&#8217;ll Go<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In <strong>Guyana,<\/strong> we understood the impacts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7863\/understanding-the-impacts-of-gold-mining-on-biodiversity\"><strong>gold mining<\/strong><\/a> on biodiversity and the impact of humans on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7633\/bird-conservation-research-in-guyana\"><strong>bird communities<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Indonesia<\/strong>, selected student <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7914\/indonesian-science-champion\">Ardiantiono<\/a><\/strong> will be transformed into an effective leader as part of the Science Leadership Collaborative program.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Poland<\/strong>, Charlotte Long volunteered with a charity that matches <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8408\/charlotte-long-volunteering\"><strong>Ukranian Refugees<\/strong><\/a> with British hosts.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Kenya<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7993\/go-ape\"><strong>Tanya Humle<\/strong><\/a> helped avoid, reduce, restore negative impacts from building projects on apes.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Guinea<\/strong>, we trained in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/7456\/ad-hoc-or-strategic-how-to-plan-and-decide-on-professional-development-for-conservation-professionals\"><strong>genetic sampling<\/strong><\/a> of chimpanzee faeces for DNA analysis.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>Costa Rica<\/strong>, our final-year BSc Conservation students travelled to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/8250\/im-a-conservationist-get-me-in-there\"><strong>Ca\u00f1o Palma Biological Field Station<\/strong><\/a> for essential conservation work.
