We’re thrilled to have Dr Mark Nesbitt<\/a> delivering our upcoming Annual Kent-Kew Ethnobotany Lecture.<\/p>\n Mark is Senior Research Leader for Interdisciplinary Research and curator of the Economic Botany Collection at Kew Gardens<\/a>, and a visiting professor in geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. Dr Rajindra Puri<\/a>, Director of the Centre for Biocultural Diversity<\/a>, invites all to listen to Mark and his fascinating views on history’s role in ethnobotany.<\/p>\n The central premise of modern ethnobotany \u2013 the study of people-plant relations \u2013 is that sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity conservation can be reconciled to mutual benefit. Today ethnobotany emphasises the agency of communities and the need for integrated conservation of culture and nature. Yet ethnobotany has a past grounded in different aims and values.
