Such\u00a0interdisciplinary\u00a0research relies on the collaboration among people in and across various communities, societies and countries.\u00a0Researchers\u00a0engaged in such research\u00a0often experience\u00a0conflicting academic practices,\u00a0competing demands and obligations to and from the local communities in which they work,\u00a0to and from\u00a0researchers from radically\u00a0different\u00a0academic background,\u00a0and to and from funding bodies. Added to this mix is the pressure to maintain a consistent level of academic rigour, reflexivity and comprehensibility across\u00a0academic\u00a0cultures and\u00a0research\u00a0contexts.<\/p>\n<p>In this\u00a0seminar, Professor\u00a0Dikomitis\u00a0will reflect on the place\u00a0and practice\u00a0of\u00a0ethnography\u00a0in such\u00a0interdisciplinary\u00a0research, drawing on her experiences of\u00a0working for a decade in Anthropology, before moving to Medicine. She will use auto-ethnographic vignettes to talk about\u00a0data collection, data analysis, community engagement and involvement, dissemination of findings, representation and authorship, concepts of impact and applying for funding.
