{"id":623,"date":"2012-07-19T10:06:20","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T10:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/?p=623"},"modified":"2015-02-12T14:10:01","modified_gmt":"2015-02-12T14:10:01","slug":"anthropology-alumni-wins-prize-at-esrc-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/2012\/07\/19\/anthropology-alumni-wins-prize-at-esrc-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Anthropology Alumna wins prize at ESRC Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1<sup>st<\/sup> year KBS Doctoral student and DICE Alumna \u00a0Sarah Tetley, won the prize for best presentation at the inaugural ESRC Doctoral Training Centre Conference in Guildford last week.<\/p>\n<p>Students from across the SE DTC \u2013 which comprises the Universities of Kent, Surrey, Reading and Royal Holloway, were invited to present their research in one of two novel, and challenging formats &#8211; \u201cThe Three-minute thesis\u201d (3MT) or a PechaKucha.\u00a0 The 3-minute Thesis \u2013 is intended to develop academic, presentation, and research communication skills by encouraging students to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience in a condensed time-frame.\u00a0 Presenters are allowed to display a single slide during the presentation.\u00a0 In contrast, PechaKucha is a form of presentation founded on a simple principle \u2013 20 slides, shown for 20 seconds each. The idea is to use an image (preferably), or perhaps a snippet of text, that complements the point you are speaking on.
