Here is a summary of what has been happening in the School of Anthropology and Conservation&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Our students returned to campus!<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"page-title\" class=\"article__title\">New Covid regulations have allowed some of our students to return to campus! The fieldwork carried out around campus at the moment is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modules\/module\/DI303\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Survey and Monitoring for Biodiversity module<\/a>\u00a0with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/481\/griffiths-richard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Richard Griffiths.<\/a> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5975\/students-return-to-campus-for-practical-fieldwork\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out more about their fieldwork<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>We were on CBBC!<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li id=\"page-title\" class=\"article__title\">Dr Sarah Johns featured in Operation Ouch! alongside Dr Xand Van Tulleken. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5990\/dr-sarah-johns-features-in-bbcs-operation-ouch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See what was discussed and watch the episode here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>We made groundbreaking research&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>A research team, led by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/986\/key-alastair\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Alastair Key<\/a> alongside<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/555\/roberts-david\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Dr David Roberts<\/a> discovered that the Acheulean is much older than previously thought. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5880\/neanderthal-and-early-modern-human-culture-co-existed-alongside-older-traditions-for-100000-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learn more<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Alongside Dr Ivan Jari\u0107 from the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/986\/key-alastair\">Dr Alastair Key<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/555\/roberts-david\">Dr David Roberts<\/a> have found that Oldowan and Acheulean stone tool technologies are likely to be tens of thousands of years older than current evidence suggests. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5971\/the-worlds-earliest-stone-technologies-are-likely-to-be-older-than-previously-thought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read more<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>We discussed future research!<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Devin Finaughty discussed the first taphonomic research programme he started in Cape Town for his PhD as well as the broader challenges that taphonomic research facilities face globally. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5938\/dr-devin-finaughty-starting-a-taphonomy-research-facility-in-cape-town-south-africa-and-beyond\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out more<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What we&#8217;re looking forward to&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Tim Marshall, author of best-seller \u2018Prisoners of Geography\u2019 is to give a distinguished Geography &amp; Environment public lecture at the University of Kent. <strong><a style=\"color: #2a6496\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5885\/the-power-of-geography-how-the-land-influences-history-and-politics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Register here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Postgraduates in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Anthropology and Conservation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Kent<\/a>, the Women in Conservation Canterbury Network, and WildHub have organised an event to ensure that researchers have access to the networks and resources that can keep them safe during fieldwork. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\/5967\/truth-be-told-safety-and-support-in-the-field\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sign up for the event here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/news\">Keep up to date with the latest news from the School of Anthropology and Conservation<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March marked one year since the first lockdown, and whilst we\u2019re still not back together in person, that hasn\u2019t stopped us!
