{"id":5841,"date":"2021-02-26T10:32:16","date_gmt":"2021-02-26T10:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/?p=5841"},"modified":"2021-02-26T15:25:49","modified_gmt":"2021-02-26T15:25:49","slug":"what-is-the-role-of-the-city-in-the-global-climate-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/2021\/02\/26\/what-is-the-role-of-the-city-in-the-global-climate-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Why cities need to take the lead in the global climate crisis."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You are all invited to attend\u00a0the next\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Centre for Architecture and the Sustainable Environment<\/a> (CASE) Open Lecture on Tuesday 9th March (6pm-7.30pm) [<a href=\"https:\/\/teams.microsoft.com\/l\/meetup-join\/19%3ae1e551a1f90c42cd924178dbb1cf1180%40thread.tacv2\/1614349775453?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%2251a9fa56-3f32-449a-a721-3e3f49aa5e9a%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22d315e7f1-d9eb-44df-a2b3-f4a78b550292%22%7d\">TEAMS<\/a> ] given by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/1914\/rock-rokem-jonathan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Dr Jonathan Rock Rokem<\/a>, Lecturer in Human Geography at the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">\u00a0School of Anthropology and Conservation<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Kent, and Co-Director of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/kiss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Kent\u2019s Interdisciplinary Centre for Spatial Studies<\/a>\u00a0(KISS).<\/p>\n<p>This lecture\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">draws on emerging interdisciplinary debates bridging human and physical geography with architecture and planning, seeking to establish a working interface between the social sciences and the built environment.\u00a0\u00a0This is part of a new research and teaching agenda established at the School of Anthropology and Conservation within the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/63\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">BA Environmental Social Science<\/a>, and specifically in the new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modules\/module\/GEOG5005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">GEOG5005 Cities and the Climate Emergency<\/a>\u00a0module bridging disciplinary barriers, and developing a more nuanced discussion related to the \u2018cities and climate change\u2019 agenda.
