{"id":5488,"date":"2020-11-04T10:39:18","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T10:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/?p=5488"},"modified":"2020-11-10T10:40:44","modified_gmt":"2020-11-10T10:40:44","slug":"applications-open-for-three-new-phd-scholarships-at-dice-in-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/2020\/11\/04\/applications-open-for-three-new-phd-scholarships-at-dice-in-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications open for three new PhD Scholarships at DICE in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The School of Anthropology and Conservation <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is proud to be part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aries-dtp.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advanced Research and Innovation in the Environmental Sciences (ARIES) Doctoral Training Partnership<\/a> which is funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/nerc.ukri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Commencing in 2021, three scholarships for PhD in Biodiversity Management at the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/dice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE)<\/a> have been shortlisted for funding by the ARIES\/NERC Doctoral Training Partnership. The projects are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aries-dtp.ac.uk\/studentships\/bicknell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">After the gold rush: verterbrate communities in abandoned goldmines and implications for restoration<\/a> supervised by Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/982\/bicknell-jake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jake Bicknell<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aries-dtp.ac.uk\/studentships\/smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Determining the effectiveness of different Conservation Area Types for meeting global Biodiversity Targets<\/a> with Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/557\/smith-bob\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob Smith<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aries-dtp.ac.uk\/studentships\/zoedavies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How and where should we expand UK woodlands to benefit people and biodiversity?<\/a> with Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/475\/davies-zoe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zoe Davies<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As one of 17 Doctoral Training Partnerships in the UK, ARIES will equip the next generation of environmental skills and knowledge, multidisciplinary outlooks and substantial potential to operate successfully across all postgraduate career options;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Assembling a diverse and integrated training partnership that enables postgraduate researchers to address priority topics in environmental sciences through cutting-edge and
