{"id":5387,"date":"2020-10-08T16:22:53","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T16:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/?p=5387"},"modified":"2020-10-08T16:22:53","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T16:22:53","slug":"the-life-and-times-of-dr-matthew-tocheri-live-q-a-event-hosted-by-the-anthropology-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/2020\/10\/08\/the-life-and-times-of-dr-matthew-tocheri-live-q-a-event-hosted-by-the-anthropology-society\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Life and Times of Dr Matthew Tocheri&#8217; &#8211; Live Q &amp; A event hosted by the Anthropology Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Everything you&#8217;ve ever wanted to know about the Hobbit (but were afraid to ask)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/kentunion.co.uk\/activities\/anthropology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anthropology Society<\/a> will be hosting a Q &amp; A session with Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakeheadu.ca\/users\/T\/mtocheri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew Tocheri<\/a>, Canada Research Chair in Human Origins and Associate Professor at Lakehead University, on <strong>Tuesday 13th October<\/strong> <strong>between 18:00 and 20:00<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Tocheri is a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution&#8217;s Human Origins Programme. His research focuses on the evolutionary history and functional morphology of humans and great apes with a particular focus on the so-called &#8216;hobbits&#8217; of human evolution, <em>Homo floresiensis.<\/em> He particularly specialises on the primitive wrist morphology of <em>Homo floresiensis<\/em> and the impacts this had on hominin evolution.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be moderated by Professor of Biological Anthropology, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/556\/skinner-matthew\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew Skinner<\/a>, and will take place in Templeman Lecture Theatre whilst simultaneously being hosted on Microsoft Teams. Due to social-distancing regulations, the lecture theatre capacity will be limited to 30, so a first-come, first-served procedure will be in place.
