The guidelines were crafted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/chacruna.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chacruna Institute for Psychedelic Plant Medicines<\/a> where Daniela now serves as an Associate Director. <a href=\"https:\/\/psychedelicstoday.com\/2019\/10\/08\/dr-daniela-peluso-guidelines-for-the-awareness-of-sexual-abuse-in-ayahuasca-ceremony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">In this podcast<\/a>, she speaks about the research behind the guidelines as well as their meaning and potential for safeguarding all genders in ayahuasca practices.<\/p>\n<p>Ayahuasca is a medicinal plant brew that is used as a traditional spiritual medicine in ceremonies in Amazonia where it is consumed for spiritual and health purposes. Over the last few decades, it has attracted a booming tourism as well as an ayahusca expansion and diaspora throughout the world. The proliferation of ayahuasca ceremonies has unfortunately and inadvertently created contexts in which sexual abuse and misconduct towards mostly female participants, local as well as foreign, has become prevalent.
