Two Kent academics are set to speak at a major conference aimed at raising the profile of green heritage in the Canterbury district.<\/p>\n
Dr\u00a0Eirini Saratsi<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0School of Anthropology and Conservation will deliver a joint presentation\u00a0at the\u00a0Growing Canterbury\u2019s Green Heritage<\/a>\u00a0event on 6 October with Dr Karen Jones from the School of History.<\/p>\n Organised by\u00a0Canterbury Connected Business Improvement District (BID)<\/a>, the\u00a0event, held at the city\u2019s Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, is being sponsored by the University. It will feature\u00a0BBC Gardeners\u2019 World<\/a>\u00a0presenter\u00a0Nick Bailey<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0keynote speaker, along with talks and panel discussions with historians, horticulturalists and local authority representatives.<\/p>\n Organisers also hope to get local schools involved with a competition aimed at generating new ideas for future\u00a0Canterbury in Bloom<\/a>\u00a0competitions. The school entries will be\u00a0displayed at the conference with the winners announced on the day.<\/p>\n Dr Jones, who is an\u00a0expert in environmental history, said, “Our talk will put the district\u2019s green heritage in its historical context, consider why we should now look to grow it and the next steps to achieving this.”<\/p>\n The\u00a0Growing Canterbury\u2019s Green Heritage\u00a0event runs from 10.00-16.00.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
