We have 31 short films screening during a full day event within the school.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate, alumni will be joining us, in person and through video messages. We also have new prizes to reflect the shift in visual anthropological aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hugh Brody returns to award his annual prize. He recently received an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/congregations\/honorary-grads\/2017\/hugh-brody.html\">honorary doctorate<\/a>\u00a0at Kent, where he gave a remarkable and inspirational speech about his research in Canada. We hope he will tell us more of a recent visit he made to the people he worked with for his influential book, <em>Maps and Dreams<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>New this year is the Paul Allain prize, awarded by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/staff-profiles\/drama\/allain.html\">Professor Paul Allain,<\/a>\u00a0for a film that present research as practice, embodiment and presence.<\/p>\n<p>A New Horizons prize will be awarded by the award-winning filmmaker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tellbrakfilms.com\/\">Yasmin Fedda<\/a>, who has made recent films on Syria.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be the Public Engagement prize in memory of Lynn Bicker and Martin Ripley. Martin Ripley featured in Joe Spence\u2019s film\u00a0<em>From the Cubby with Love\u00a0<\/em>last year and sadly passed away last January.<\/p>\n<div id=\"Signature\">\n<p>Please invite friends and interested students through our live\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/194566204517267\/\">facebook event<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"BodyFragment\">\n<p>It starts at 09.30 in the Marlowe foyer and finishes at 19:00, but you can also dip in on the hour for different themed combinations of films.<\/p>\n<p>From 14:00 until 17:00, we will be altogether in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1 and the films have been chosen to reflect that.<\/p>\n<p>It will be a real celebration of our students and their engagement in the world and we hope to see you there.
