This month Senior Lecturer Dr Jonathan Mair visited the Abbey School in Faversham to speak to students studying social science subjects about the distinctive aspects of social anthropological research.
Over 150 students attended the talk, which focused on the ways in which ethnographic research methods can help us to understand human life in society. Dr Mair spoke about his research in northern China, Taiwan and France and explained how his own experience of ethnographic field research helped to inform his understanding of concepts such as politeness and religion.
Dr Mair is convenor of the BA (hons) Social Anthropology degree. Anyone interested in learning more about the degree can get in touch directly by emailing J.Mair-2030@kent.ac.uk.
