Dr Juan Martín Dabezies, an archaeologist and environmental anthropologist by training, is an adjunct professor in Ethnobiology at the University of the Republic in Uruguay. Much of his research has focused on the process of a ‘heritagisation’ of nature and management of a palm forest in Uruguay . His current project looks at the social dynamics and conflicts associated with the expansion of wild boar in Europe and its incidence at a discursive and material level in Uruguay, in terms of conservation and biosecurity processes.
Dr Dabezies is an excellent colleague whose work and interests resonate nicely with several staff and students across social anthropology, geography, conservation and ethnobiology.
During much of his time at Kent, Dr Dabezies will be based in room 64d and reachable on j.m.dabezies@kent.ac.uk. He is looking forward to becoming part of the School’s collegiate community and will be joining us during some of the seminars, perhaps doing some guest lecturing too.
The School of Anthropology and Conservation encourages all of its students and staff to welcome him and catch up at some point, particularly if there are areas of common interest.
