Dr Julieta G. García-Donas and Jeremy Pless, student of the MSc Forensic Osteology and Field Recovery Methods programme, attended the British Association of Human Identification (BAHID) summer residential conference last weekend. BAHID brings together experts in human identification, judicial investigation and other forensic science-related disciplines.
Dr García-Donas presented her research on bone histology and bone chemistry, emphasising laboratory-based methods for the analysis of fragmented human remains for identification of unknown individuals.
Jeremy presented a poster on the impact of biomass reduction through composting and the implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval. His poster won the top student presentation prize which constitutes an award of £200. The School congratulates Jeremy for this success and continues to encourage students to present their research projects at national and international scientific meetings.
