Everyone is cordially invited to the first of KISS’ Research Events, a screening of Patrick Keiller’s Robinson In Space. Keiller is both a filmmaker and an academic in the field of architecture, and his 1997 film is narrated by an unnamed character (voiced by Paul Scofield) who accompanies his friend and one-time lover, the unseen Robinson, in a series of excursions around Britain. Robinson In Space, along with its earlier companion piece London, is seen as a critique of the United Kingdom’s economic environment under the Conservative governments of the previous eighteen years. The film also concerns itself strongly with ideas of nation, landscape and nostalgia.
The film will be screened on 25th November in Eliot Lecture Theatre 2 from 18:00 – 19:00 and followed by a drinks reception at the Gulbenkian from 19:30. The event is free and all are welcome. For those who cannot make the film but wish to join for drinks, please feel free to do so as the aim is to enjoy the opportunity to meet KISS members and others who are interested in the research field.
