The Geography and Environment team within the School of Anthropology and Conservation, are delighted to offer a number of scholarships of £1,000 to students starting either a Human Geography or Environmental Social Sciences degree in September 2021.
Launched in September 2019, the Human Geography BSc is delivered by the academic community across the School. Offered as a three- or four-year (with one-year work placement or year abroad) degree, it is a fusion of major geographic themes such as social and cultural geography, economics and development studies, and environmental and landscape planning. Students can also access expertise from across the University including Law, Sociology, Anthropology and Biodiversity Conservation.
The longer-established Environmental Social Sciences BA runs alongside Human Geography at Kent and offers a range of perspectives, drawing from subjects as varied as anthropology, politics, economics, philosophy, law, history, literature and the creative arts. The programme can also be taken as a four-year degree including a one-year work placement.
Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded, on a competitive basis, to UK, EU and Overseas applicants to the University of Kent who meet all the criteria below.
To be eligible, applicants must have accepted an offer (firm choice) for entry to first-year (Stage 1) of one of the following full-time degrees at the University of Kent starting September 2021:
- Human Geography BSc
- Human Geography with a Year Abroad BSc
- Human Geography with a Year in Professional Practice BSc
- Environmental Social Sciences BA
- Environmental Social Sciences with a Year in Professional Practice BA
Only applicants who meet the conditions of their offer and become registered students will receive the funding.
How to apply
These one-year Geography and Environment Undergraduate Scholarships 2021 will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applicants must write a 500 word essay on the following topic:
“Given the climate and environmental crisis – what can Human Geographers/Environmental Social Scientists do to help drive sustainable development?”
