Dr Jonathan Mair, Lecturer in Social Anthropology, spoke on Buddhism and Anthropology on 5 November at the Manchester Gallery. The talk was part of an event, Getting to Know Chinese Buddhism, organised under the banner of the ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) Festival of Social Sciences, which takes place annually across the country. Over 80 members of the public attended over the course of the day, taking part in tea ceremonies and practising Chinese calligraphy, as well as listening to talks from Dr Mair and members of the Chinese Buddhist community.
The event was organised jointly by Dr Mair and the Manchester Buddha’s Light International Association/Fo Guang Shan Temple, and was funded by the ESRC.
