The Autumn term saw the launch of the\u00a0School of Arts and Architecture (SAA)\u00a0Creative Industries Employability Series.\u00a0To kick\u00a0off\u00a0the series,\u00a0the first\u00a0event\u00a0was The Kent Film Office: Bringing Screen Projects to Life. The\u00a0<\/span>Kent Film Office<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(KFO)\u00a0shared\u00a0valuable\u00a0insight into their work supporting film and television productions across the county.\u00a0This was a fantastic opportunity for those interested in working in the film and television industry to hear directly from industry professionals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The session\u00a0included how to bring screen projects to life, from managing locations and\u00a0logistics\u00a0to promoting the beautiful and historical county of Kent as a key destination for filmmakers.\u00a0Take a look\u00a0at the fantastic feedback received from one of our current students from the School of Arts and Architecture:<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The KFO lecture provided a comprehensive overview of the details and advantages of filming in Kent, meticulously explaining how to select locations, key considerations, and the necessary permits\u00a0required. It really encouraged us as University of Kent students to step out of campus and film or create in the county. I particularly enjoyed the promotional short film, which highlighted how\u00a0many movies and TV shows have been shot in Kent. The sections on work placements and training were especially helpful, highlighting opportunities like\u00a0ScreenSkills\u00a0modules, BBC Taster Days, and BFI Film Academy programs, along with tips on building a CV and networking in the industry. It\u00a0provided\u00a0actionable insights into entering the creative world, from drone regulations to inclusive practices, and left me equipped with resources to pursue hands-on experience.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0(Milo Shen \u2013 SAA Student)\u00a0<\/span>

What is the Creative Industries Employability Series?<\/span><\/b>
\nThe Creative Industries Employability series features industry professionals and the University of Kent’s\u00a0<\/span>Careers and Employability Service<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and has more\u00a0great events\u00a0upcoming across the Autumn term. The sessions are open to all students in SAA and are designed to\u00a0provide\u00a0valuable insights into a wide range of creative careers and support the development of practical skills.
