JARMAN JAM: The Creative Arts Showcase – poetry, stand-up, film, and more!

Five students and host of Jarman Jam stand together smiling and holding a Jarman Jam poster.

JARMAN JAM is a creative arts showcase brought to you by the School of Arts and Architecture (SAA) – and it’s all about students. It’s an opportunity for students to share their work with a lively and supportive student audience, and the whole thing is run by students.

The JARMAN JAM team is entirely made up of current students in the School of Arts and Architecture, and they have complete freedom to run things as they want to, albeit with the help and support of lecturers when they want it. The JARMAN JAM team say:

‘We would encourage other students to put themselves out there and share their work, no matter how confident they may or may not be. Performing and showing off what you have made can be so beneficial for your self-esteem and opens yourself up for developing new ideas. We would also say that you should never be afraid to try something new! So many members of the Jarman Jam team had no idea that they could run an event, be a successful compere, or create the perfect publicity materials before we threw ourselves into it and had a go!’

JARMAN JAM shows feature songs, poetry, stand-up, film clips, double acts, sketches and pretty much anything that students want to present. They tend to happen in the Jarman Building – hence the name – which is directly opposite the Venue. Admission is free and non-ticketed. Look out for posters for details of the time and date, then just turn up – and prepare to have fun!

The JARMAN JAM team have big plans for 2025-26, and if you want to keep up with everything they’re doing, you can follow them on Instagram: @ukcjarmanjam
