Behind The Scenes – Producing Contemporary Theatre

Red theatre curtains closed on a stage.

Last term, the Careers and Employability Service (CES) hosted an event as part of the Creative Industries Employability Series with the School of Arts and Architecture (SAA), which explored key aspects of a career in creative producing. This session was available to support students in getting advice and guidance on starting their career in the creative industries.

The session was hosted by Katherine Woodward, who took students through her own career journey in detail, using concrete examples from her professional practice and shared valuable insights into what makes a strong theatre producer. The session was particularly useful for students interested in producing, arts management and site-specific work. Notably, one student secured a placement working alongside Katherine this term, highlighting the value of these sessions for networking and professional development.

Don’t forget, if you missed out and would like career guidance and support, you can always reach out to the Careers and Employability team to book an appointment. You can also take advantage of all the workshops, events and careers tools and resources the team have to offer.
