He baptised at St Matthew&#8217;s on 1 July of that year. \u00a0He lived at 24 Sidney Road with his parents.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the 1911 Census, Frederick was still living at home with his mother, who was then 53, widowed and working as a laundress. \u00a0Isabella Parris was originally from Whiteparish in Wiltshire. \u00a0Frederick&#8217;s oldest sister, also Isabella, was also living at home, as she had been widowed less than a year into her marriage; his younger\u00a0brother,\u00a0Alfred, was unmarried and also living at home. \u00a0Frederick was working as an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.census1891.com\/occupations-c.php\">carman<\/a>, whilst Alfred was a labourer at the cement works. \u00a0The youngest daughter, Lily, was aged 14 and no occupation was recorded for her &#8211; she may well have still been in school.\u00a0\u00a0Mark Parris was originally from Cooling, and at the time of the 1901 Census, was working as a general labourer.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike his brother, Frederick does not appear to have served as a reservist in the years before the First World War. \u00a0During the war, Frederick served with the <a href=\"http:\/\/museum.maidstone.gov.uk\/our-museums\/queens-own\/\">2nd\/4th Battalion of the Queen&#8217;s Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment as a private<\/a>. \u00a0His regimental number was 201427. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.1914-1918.net\/rwk.htm\">The 2nd\/4th Battalion was formed in September 1914, and was sent overseas to Sulva Bay and to the Gallipoli Campaign. \u00a0The Battalion remained there until December 1915, when they were evacuated to Egypt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Frederick was killed in action in Egypt on 19 September 1918, aged 30. \u00a0He is buried in the Ramleh War Cemetery, Gaza.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cwgc.org\/find-war-dead\/casualty\/653072\/PARRIS,%20F\">Click here to access details of his grave via the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>References and links:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Local archives and objects:<\/p>\n<p>City of Rochester Roll of Honour<\/p>\n<p>Friends of Medway Archives, De Caville Index<\/p>\n<p>St Matthew\u2019s Roll of Honour<\/p>\n<p>Ancestry.com sources:<\/p>\n<p>Census 1901:\u00a0Class: <em>RG13<\/em>; Piece: <em>726<\/em>; Folio: <em>11<\/em>; Page: <em>13<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Census 1911:\u00a0Census 1911. \u00a0Class: <em>RG14<\/em>; Piece: <em>3889<\/em>; Schedule Number: <em>196<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920<\/em> [database on-line].
