{"id":180,"date":"2016-11-29T09:52:59","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T09:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/rochesterborstalfirstworldwar\/?p=180"},"modified":"2016-11-29T09:52:59","modified_gmt":"2016-11-29T09:52:59","slug":"fuggle-percy-1899-1918","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/rochesterborstalfirstworldwar\/2016\/11\/29\/fuggle-percy-1899-1918\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuggle, Percy (1899-1918)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Percy Edward Fuggle was born in Colaba, India in 1898, and lived in Frindsbury at the time of his enlistment and death. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/rochesterborstalfirstworldwar\/2016\/11\/29\/fuggle-james-sidney-1898-1916\/\">His older brother, James Sidney<\/a>, had already served in the First World War, dying in Mesopotamia in 1916. \u00a0He joined the 6<sup>th<\/sup> Battalion of the Queen\u2019s Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment in 1917, and died the following year in 1918 in France, on or shortly after 8 September.\u00a0 His regimental number was L\/11767.<\/p>\n<p>Percy\u2019s military history record reveals that he had only just turned 18 when he joined the army on 18 October 1917.\u00a0 He was 5 foot 7\u00bd inches tall, and weighed 147 lbs.\u00a0 His complexion was described as fresh, his eyes grey and his hair brown.\u00a0 Following the Military Service Act 1916, Percy would have been conscripted rather than being a volunteer. \u00a0James, on the other hand, was already in the army by the start of 1916, presumably having volunteered.<\/p>\n<p>Percy\u2019s page on Every Man Remembered can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.everymanremembered.org\/profiles\/soldier\/246518\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sources:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Find My Past: GRO Army Birth Indices (1881-1965)<\/p>\n<p>Ancestry.com.\u00a0<em>British Army WWI Service Records, 1914-1920<\/em>\u00a0[database on-line].
