Henry Herbert Murdoch was born on the 27th March 1889 in Medway. The first census he is recorded in was the 1901, which shows him as 12 years old and living at 34 Longley Road, Rochester, with his father Fredrick Murdoch, who was a gas works labourer (originally from Edinburgh), his mother Elizabeth Murdoch, and his five brothers.
Sometime between here and the 1911 census, Henry’s father passed away and him, his 61 year old mother and his older brother Alfred Earnest Murdoch (who was a mate of a barge), moved 28 doors down to 62 Longley Road. At the time of the 1911 census, Henry was already employed by the Royal Navy as a Naval Stoker.
Henry’s first date of service with the Royal Navy, was recorded as 3rd March 1908, and his last day of service was 13th April 1920. Henry’s last service was at the HMS Pembroke II, which was the Royal Naval Air Station at Eastchurch on the Isle of Sheppey.
He married a Charlotte D Munn In 1929 in Dover Kent.
Sometime after this Henry moved to Sheppey where he died in September 1960 at the age of 71 years.
