On Thursday 10 April, the University of Kent welcomed over 40 members of the\u00a0<\/span>Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to its 300-acre Canterbury campus for a tour of a selection of the 150+ spaces and facilities open for community use.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The event was the first in the Chamber\u2019s 2025 series of \u2018netwalks\u2019 and an opportunity for attendees to explore everything the University has to offer the local community. Those visiting the campus for the first time were pleasantly surprised by the range of\u00a0<\/span>conferencing and events spaces<\/span><\/a>, catering outlets, sports and arts facilities available.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the tour, discussion turned to how businesses can tap into the skills, expertise and social initiatives that the University can help with. Opportunities range from attending\u00a0<\/span>careers fairs<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and offering work experience placements for students, to partnering with Kent researchers to\u00a0<\/span>develop products and services<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A highlight of the tour was a visit to the\u00a0<\/span>Kent Community Oasis Garden<\/span><\/a>, which is managed in partnership with the mental health charity,\u00a0<\/span>East Kent Mind<\/span><\/a>. A cornerstone of Kent\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Right to Food<\/span><\/a>\u00a0movement, this multi-use space for students and the local community is a hub of sustainability where fruit and vegetables are grown year-round. It\u2019s just one of a number of outdoor spaces across the campus that will become part of\u00a0<\/span>The River<\/span><\/a>, a new public walking route celebrating plant life set to launch as part of Kent\u2019s 60<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0anniversary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Businesses were joined on the walk by one of Kent\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Sanctuary Scholars<\/span><\/a>\u00a0who is supported through generous benefactors via the\u00a0<\/span>Sanctuary<\/span><\/a>\u00a0initiative \u2013 just one of a number of ways Kent is working with businesses and charitable organisations towards greater social justice and improved local outcomes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We had a lovely morning showing off our beautiful campus and some of the fantastic spaces for hire.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n
