The University has secured three Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAA) from UK Research and Innovation\u2019s (UKRI) most recent funding round.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0IAAs\u00a0are worth \u00a3850,000\u00a0in total and will help Kent\u2019s\u00a0researchers\u00a0to unlock the\u00a0benefits\u00a0of their work, including early-stage commercialisation of\u00a0new technologies\u00a0and advancing changes to public policy and services such as NHS clinical practice.<\/p>\n
The three awards are \u00a3450k from the\u00a0Arts and Humanities Research Council<\/a>\u00a0(AHRC), \u00a3100k from the\u00a0Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council<\/a>\u00a0(BBSRC) and \u00a3300k from the\u00a0Medical Research Council<\/a>\u00a0(MRC).\u202fThe University will add over \u00a3240,000 of matched support to these awards.<\/p>\n To find out more about Kent’s medical research and how the \u00a3300k funding from the Medical Research Council will be used to translate this research into innovation, attend our MRC Impact Acceleration Account Launch Event<\/a> on 15 July.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The IAAs\u00a0support critical early-stage translation of UK research to real impacts, transforming public services, creating new jobs, attracting private\u00a0investment\u00a0and forging new partnerships with business and charities.\u00a0Kent\u2019s awards\u00a0are part of \u00a3118m of funding announced by UKRI over three years across 64 organisations, focusing on maximising impact, knowledge exchange, translation, and commercialisation potential within research organisations.<\/p>\n Kent\u2019s\u00a0IAAs will be led by\u00a0Dr Helen Brooks<\/a>\u00a0from the School of Arts (AHRC) and\u00a0Dr Tobias von der Haar<\/a>\u00a0(BBSRC) and\u00a0Professor Michelle Garrett<\/a>\u00a0(MRC) both from the School of Biosciences. Along with other staff from the University they will work with partners from industry, charities and public bodies to secure funding for their projects.<\/p>\n Professor Shane Weller, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), said: \u2018Following our\u00a0outstanding results in REF 2021<\/a>, which saw Kent rise 11 places to 38th in the national rankings for research quality, we are delighted to be among only 50 universities in the UK to have secured funding from UKRI\u2019s Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) scheme.<\/p>\n \u2018At the heart of our institutional research and innovation strategy is a commitment to research that is of significant social, cultural and economic benefit to society, and that addresses major regional, national and international challenges in areas such as health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and social justice.
