Discovery Park is Kent\u2019s leading science park and a global leader for science and enterprise.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_412\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-412\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-412\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kienews\/files\/2020\/02\/DP-Life-Sciences-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-412\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Life Sciences Announcement. Discovery Park. 20.02.20<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/enterprise\/\">Kent Innovation &amp; Enterprise<\/a>, the University\u2019s business and innovation gateway, we work closely with Discovery Park on a wide range of initiatives and partnerships\u00a0to support the development of a\u00a0Kent life sciences ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/office-for-life-sciences\">The OLS<\/a>\u00a0Life Sciences Industrial Strategy sets out a vision to deliver future growth for the sector\u00a0targeting support at a regional level. The Zones are part of this vision and will promote and support science parks and other regional innovation \u2018clusters\u2019\u00a0to attract investment and enhance local research and development\u00a0as well as innovation collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>Life sciences is a diverse sector and the University has a\u00a0long established reputation for the quality of its research, teaching and innovation in this area. In a partnership with Canterbury Christ Church it will open the region\u2019s first medical school (<a href=\"https:\/\/kmms.ac.uk\/\">Kent\u00a0and Medway Medical Schoo<\/a>l) in September 2020.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_411\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-411\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-411\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kienews\/files\/2020\/02\/DP-Life-Sciences-11-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-411\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Life Sciences Announcement. Discovery Park. 20.02.20<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Professor Philippe de Wilde, the University of Kent\u2019s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research &amp; Innovation, said: \u2018<strong>Kent has extensive experience of collaborative working<\/strong>, both internally and with a wide range of external stakeholders, including life sciences product and service suppliers, NHS Trusts, businesses and charities. We would like to congratulate Discovery Park on achieving Life Sciences Opportunities Zone status and look forward to the\u00a0<strong>new opportunities that will arise from this<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The University of Kent\u2019s Canterbury campus is a short distance from Discovery Park.
