{"id":1410,"date":"2016-05-19T14:53:06","date_gmt":"2016-05-19T13:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ris\/?p=1410"},"modified":"2025-05-19T15:01:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T14:01:46","slug":"cutting-carbon-emissions-and-saving-freight-miles-in-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ris\/2016\/05\/19\/cutting-carbon-emissions-and-saving-freight-miles-in-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Cutting carbon emissions and saving freight miles in Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University and Priority Freight, a major international distributor based in Kent, has helped the firm cut its carbon emissions by an average of 2.2 tonnes of CO2 a week thanks to improved vehicle route planning.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next three years, the projected financial savings for the firm, based in Whitfield near Dover, will be significant.<\/p>\n<p>The KTP project was initially set up by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/enterprise\/\">Kent Innovation and Enterprise (KIE)<\/a>\u00a0who support and help\u00a0deliver partnership projects with academics\u00a0across the University. This partnership benefitted from the appointment of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/about\/\">Kent Business School<\/a>\u00a0(KBS) graduate, Brian Gutierrez, who worked with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kbs\/people\/profiles\/salhi-said.html\">Professor Said Salhi<\/a>\u00a0(also from KBS) to\u00a0embed new processes\u00a0during a 30-month project with the company.
