{"id":1151,"date":"2023-08-11T09:51:33","date_gmt":"2023-08-11T08:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ris\/?p=1151"},"modified":"2025-05-19T12:45:21","modified_gmt":"2025-05-19T11:45:21","slug":"ukri-funded-partnership-between-kent-business-school-and-b-corp-priory-direct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/ris\/2023\/08\/11\/ukri-funded-partnership-between-kent-business-school-and-b-corp-priory-direct\/","title":{"rendered":"UKRI-funded partnership between Kent Business School and B-Corp Priory Direct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">The Knowledge Transfer Partnership will improve efficiency and service levels in sustainable packaging provision in ecommerce.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__lead\">A new partnership between <a style=\"background-color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\">Kent Business School<\/a>\u00a0at the University of Kent and Aylesford-based B Corp certified sustainable packaging firm\u00a0<a style=\"background-color: #ffffff\" href=\"https:\/\/www.priorydirect.co.uk\/\">Priory Direct<\/a>\u00a0aims to improve efficiency and service levels within sustainable packaging provision to the fast-growing e-commerce sector.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__content\">\n<p>The partnership is expected to lead to an increase in market share and improvements in stock availability, demand forecasting, and logistics carbon footprint\u202fthrough enhanced data handling and supply chain analytics.<\/p>\n<p>It has been made possible by a \u00a3265,000 Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/\">UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)<\/a>\u00a0through Innovate UK.<\/p>\n<p>Kent Business School\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/people\/senior-leadership-team\/2564\/raeesi-ramin\">Dr Ramin Raeesi<\/a>\u00a0will provide expertise in logistics modelling and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/kent-business-school\/people\/3645\/zhu-zhen\">Dr Zhen Zhu<\/a>\u00a0will advise on machine learning, predictive modelling and demand forecasting.<\/p>\n<p>Managing Director of Priory Direct, Josh Pitman, said: \u2018We\u2019re excited to be contributing to, and supporting, our local higher-education organisation to drive innovation forward in the UK\u2019s supply chain. \u00a0The importance of education is core to our values and, as a certified\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bcorporation.uk\/\">B Corp<\/a>, we care about positively contributing to our community and society.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21418\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/08\/Priory-Direct-Van-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-21418 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/08\/Priory-Direct-Van-3.jpg\" alt=\"A priory direct van outside their Larkfield HQ\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21418\" class=\"figure__caption\">Priory Direct\u2019s headquarters is in Larkfield, in Aylesford, Kent.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018The KTP fits in a wonderful crossroads where a deeply commercial aim can be met in a way that supports the University of Kent and our society and provides a valuable innovation that can support improved ecommerce sustainability.\u202fThe project will allow Priory Direct to accelerate our mission to minimise the environmental impact of ecommerce by intelligently using consumption and manufacturing data to increase supply chain efficiency, minimise wasted journeys and material, and provide outstanding forecasting and continuity of supply.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Dr Raeesi said: \u2018Priory Direct supplies over 21,000 businesses in the UK with sustainable packaging solutions and faces a high level of supply chain volatility and complex customer purchasing behaviour, which in turn significantly complicates demand prediction and inventory management. This KTP will be a key initiative and an important step up for the company to develop its in-house advanced statistical and machine-learning expertise required to develop robust and reliable forecasting tools.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21419\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/08\/Untitled-design-25.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-21419 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kbs-news-events\/files\/2023\/08\/Untitled-design-25.png\" alt=\"Dr Ramin Raeesi\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21419\" class=\"figure__caption\">Dr Ramin Raeesi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dr Raeesi also explained that Kent Business School, through its<a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/clho\/\">\u00a0Centre for Logistics and Sustainability Analytics (CeLSA)<\/a>, \u202fwill be supporting Priory Direct to provide the missing-knowledge in data-mining and other relevant areas of inventory-control, stock-planning, supply-chain-analytics, modelling and programming \u2018to help them develop a bespoke and compatible forecasting model that is capable of capturing the high-level of demand-uncertainty faced\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Marian Garcia, Dean of Kent Business School, added: \u2018Kent Business School is committed to practices that drive sustainable innovation and this partnership with Priory Direct showcases our alignment to climate action and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Our academics specialising in sustainable supply chain and logistics are leading experts in their field and their knowledge, partnered with the experience of the team at Priory Direct, will drive positive change in an essential area of enterprise.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The KTP will run for 30 months.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Apply to be the KTP Associate based at Priory Direct<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>We are recruiting for a Data Scientist (KTP Associate) to lead the development and integration of a bespoke and compatible forecasting solution for Priory Direct via this KTP.
