We are delighted to announce that this years’ Kent Innovation i-Teams 2023 challenges will be set by Medway-based industry sponsors BAE Systems, Vesper 247 and the Docking Station.
Delivered in partnership with Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, Kent Innovation i-Teams brings the most innovative and creative students together with industry to solve real-world challenges over the course of 8 weekly sessions supported by business mentors.
BAE Systems provide some of the world’s most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions. Their electronic systems team based in Rochester produce commercial aircraft avionics for Boeing and Airbus, Head-Up Displays for military aircraft, Helmet Mounted Displays such as Striker II and the Active Inceptor for the new F-35 Lightning.

The Docking Station is a project being developed by the Institute of Creative and Cultural Industries (iCCi), in partnership with Medway Council and the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, to create a new hub for the cultural and creative industries in Medway with a focus on immersive digital technology, innovation and research. It will transform the Grade II listed Scheduled Ancient Monument and former Police Section House, situated just to the north of The Historic Dockyard Chatham, into a unique creative facility.
These three sponsors will play a crucial role in the i-Teams programme by challenging University of Kent students to address a challenge faced by their organisation. Over the course of 8 weeks, they will give students an insight into their industry, provide feedback on initial ideas and listen to teams as they pitch their innovative solutions in the Grand Final at the end of the programme. Participants will also benefit from mentorship throughout the programme from Tudor Price and colleagues from the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce.
i-Teams originated at MIT and was brought over to the UK by the University of Cambridge in 2006. Now in its fourth year at the University of Kent , the programme offers students a fantastic opportunity to showcase your skills and ideas to potential employers, build valuable connections, gain business insight and experience working in a team to deliver an innovative project.
Sessions will take place every Wednesday evening from 6:15 – 8:45pm between 1 February and 22 March in Grimond. Students are invited to sign up for the last remaining places until midnight on Wednesday 25 January. Find out more and register here.
