Researchers from across three Kent Schools have been included in the prestigious Clarivate list of Highly Cited Researchers 2023, recognising their significant and broad influence in their fields of research.

The four Kent researchers included in the list are:

  • Professor Thanos Papadopoulos, Professor of Management (Information Systems/Operations Management) and Head of the Department of Analytics, Operations and Systems in Kent Business School
  • Professor Karen Douglas, Professor of Social Psychology in the School of Psychology and specialist in conspiracy theories
  • Dr Emma Veale, Senior Research Associate at Medway School of Pharmacy known for her study of mammalian ion channels in neurons
  • Professor Alistair Mathie, Honorary Professor of Pharmacology and Cell Biology at Medway School of Pharmacy with expertise in “bioelectricity”.

A high number of citations indicates that a researcher’s publication has been read and referenced widely by other people. The more citations, the more widely a piece of research is disseminated throughout society, and the greater its impact. Each researcher selected for the list has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science over the past decade. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.

In 2022, our outstanding Research Excellence Framework 2021 results confirmed Kent as a leading research university, with the majority of our submissions rated as world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*). The inclusion of Kent researchers in the Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list further exemplifies the significant impact our research community is having regionally, nationally and internationally.
