The UK Government’s most recent National LGBT Survey found that of 100,000 LGBT people surveyed, ‘23% had experienced a negative or mixed reaction from others in the workplace due to being LGBT or being thought to be LGBT’.
Connor Styche, Managing Director at The Digital Lookout and speaker at the Kent HR Conference, is helping to change this statistic by sharing his experience as a 27 year old transgender man in the workplace.
“I want to break the mould and challenge that we can’t talk about someone’s differences because we’re scared of saying the wrong thing.”
Born female, Connor began his transition to male just two years ago. His light-hearted and welcoming approach to what can be a difficult subject to broach will make you laugh. More importantly, his session at the Kent HR Conference will provide you with an opportunity to ask him any question you like, however bold you think it might be, and to get an honest and genuine answer.
“I want to break the mould and challenge that we can’t talk about someone’s differences because we’re scared of saying the wrong thing,” Connor explains, “I have identified as straight, gay, female, male, transgender and I’m autistic (an HR manager’s dream for box ticking)! I promise to deliver an interesting and inspiring session by sharing insight into my own personal journey.”
Connor promises:
- No holds barred approach – ask me anything!
- Real-life experiences and advice, not PC guidelines from someone in HR
- No preaching or flag-waving – just honest insights from someone who ticks a lot of diversity boxes
Connor’s talk forms part of a full-day programme of HR-related sessions delivered by experts from the University of Kent and guest speakers at the Kent HR Conference on Wednesday 23 November. Register for your place for your opportunity to learn, network and spark ideas.
