Think Kent Discovers: Using Analytics for Sustainable Development

Real World Applications

As part of the Think Kent Discovers series, we are delighted to host a virtual panel event on Wednesday 9 June, 12-1pm on ‘Using Analytics for Sustainable Development: Real World Applications

Analytics offers an ideal set of tools to tackle sustainable development challenges. Academics in the Department of Analytics, Operations and Systems (AOS) at Kent Business School work on a variety of impactful real-world projects, ranging from the optimisation of logistics operations to the mitigation of disaster impacts in developing countries.

In a recent project funded by the British Academy, an interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Prof Scaparra, from the Kent Business School, used analytics tools to analyse the impacts of flooding on urban road networks in Vietnam and identify cost-efficient flood mitigation investments to minimise social and economic flood impacts.

Building on lessons learned from projects in the UK with companies such as Port of Dover and Eurostar, AOS academics are currently working with researchers in 5 Southeast Asia countries to build analytics capacity and address challenges in the areas of transport infrastructure development, smart cities and disaster management.

The panel will consist of Professor Maria Paola Scaparra, Professor of Management Science and the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at the University of Kent Business School. Dang Thu Phuong, International Consultant at the University of Kent and Ngo Cong Chinh, Director at Asian Management and Development Institute.

This event is free and open to all – book through Eventbrite.
