{"id":43,"date":"2022-02-17T11:55:40","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T11:55:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/public-engagement-case-studies\/?p=43"},"modified":"2022-03-09T11:01:16","modified_gmt":"2022-03-09T11:01:16","slug":"thanet-pop-up-shop-set-to-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/public-engagement-case-studies\/2022\/02\/17\/thanet-pop-up-shop-set-to-open\/","title":{"rendered":"THANET pop-up shop set to open"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<div class=\"panel panel--content panel--grid-content panel--article-body\">\n<div class=\"panel__body\">\n<div class=\"content content--main\">\n<div class=\"text\">\n<div class=\"text__body\">\n<p>A high-street pop-up shop will soon be open in Ramsgate thanks to the hard work of scientists in the Division of Natural Sciences including Dr Vicky Mason and partner\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/researchexcellencenews\/Discovery%20Planet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Discovery Planet<\/a>\u202fwho secured funding for two years.<\/p>\n<p>The space will be used for science and arts workshops, outreach\u00a0activities, exhibitions, skills workshops, seminars and other collaborative\u00a0activities\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0local community.<\/p>\n<p>The project underpins\u00a0the University\u2019s civic mission and\u00a0will\u00a0help to cement its sense of place in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Dr\u00a0Mason and\u00a0Discovery Planet\u00a0were overwhelmed\u00a0at a recent pilot session held at\u00a0the Old Fire Station\u00a0in the town\u00a0to gauge interest\u00a0and promote the project. A whopping 270 school students from schools across the district turned\u00a0out alongside 40 teachers and 50 members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>Focussing on\u00a0clean energy\u00a0the day\u2019s programme was developed by Dr Mason and\u00a0PhD student Anna\u00a0Peiro\u00a0Franch,\u00a0who is researching new materials for solar panels.\u00a0Local wind farm company\u00a0London Array\u00a0also\u00a0presented.<\/p>\n<p>The feedback overall was extremely positive,\u00a0and all teachers and members\u00a0were eager to know when the next event will be.
