Pint of Science 2018

About The Project

The Pint of Science festival is a three-day international public engagement festival held each May that will see thousands of scientists across the globe simultaneously standing up and telling the public about their research in over 100 cities across 18 countries.

Festival Aims

The Festival aims to create an informal, comfortable space where people who would not usually have direct access to current research would feel comfortable asking questions and sharing their views with researchers. The university shares these objectives; enriching the work of academics and helping to increase its impact, ensure its relevance and increase partnership opportunities.

For members of the public, engagement with research ensures the work of universities remains responsive to real-world demands. It also leads to a better understanding of the University’s activities and values and how these can benefit the wider community.

2018

After a very successful first year, with 3 sold out events, the Pint of Science team at Kent are excited to announce that we will again be participating in the Pint of Science festival in 2018 and will be expanding to hold 6 events over 3 different University of Kent locations; Canterbury, Medway and Tonbridge.

We’ve already selected a number of pubs and are looking for expressions of interest from speakers, particularly Early Career Researchers and final year PhD students looking to develop their public engagement skills.

If you are interested, please email pintofscience@kent.ac.uk with the following details by 23:59 on Wednesday 31 January 2018

1. Your name and school
2. A summary of your research (max 100 words)
3. Your plan for an interactive session of 20-30 minutes (max 100 words)
4. A short summary explaining how you plan to engage a live audience (max 100 words).

Kent’s Pint of Science Team will review the expressions and develop themes for each evening of the festival. The outcome will be announced by the end of January and a practice run will take place in the spring. Please direct any questions to the Kent Pint of Science team at pintofscience@kent.ac.uk
