{"id":598,"date":"2015-07-30T09:42:40","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T08:42:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/?p=598"},"modified":"2016-05-16T14:59:12","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T13:59:12","slug":"treatment-for-firesetters-is-effective-research-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/2015\/07\/30\/treatment-for-firesetters-is-effective-research-shows\/","title":{"rendered":"Treatment for firesetters is effective, research shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Research from psychologists shows that male firesetting prisoners can be effectively treated with a pioneering treatment.<\/p>\n<p>In a two-year study involving prisoners at Swaleside and Elmley prisons, researchers from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/core-fp\/index.html\">Centre of Research and Education in Forensic Psychology (CORE-FP)<\/a> in the School of Psychology found overwhelming evidence that their treatment involving cognitive behavioural therapy was effective.<\/p>\n<p>There had previously been no interventions available to treat men who deliberately set fires.
