{"id":495,"date":"2015-05-08T15:06:03","date_gmt":"2015-05-08T14:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/?p=495"},"modified":"2016-05-16T15:01:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-16T14:01:41","slug":"male-potential-rated-better-than-female-track-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/2015\/05\/08\/male-potential-rated-better-than-female-track-record\/","title":{"rendered":"Male potential \u2018rated better\u2019 than female track record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Research suggests males perceived to have high leadership potential are rated a better employment prospect than females with a proven leadership record.<\/p>\n<p>The research, by a team from the University\u2019s School of Psychology, was presented at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bps.org.uk\/events\/conferences\/annual-conference-2015\/programme\">British Psychological Society Annual Conference<\/a> in Liverpool on 6 May.<\/p>\n<p>The findings, which provide initial evidence that women\u2019s leadership potential is not recognised by potential employers, could have implications for gender equality in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>In the study, a total of 98 people (39 women) participated in an online hiring simulation. Each participant was shown four potential applicants for a managerial role who were approximately the same age. The applications varied the applicant\u2019s gender and assessments of leadership potential and leadership achievement.
