We conduct both basic and applied research in several areas, and we are highly regarded as a leading European centre for postgraduate research. We have a long-established international reputation in social psychology, and this is complemented by our strengths in cognitive neuropsychology, developmental and forensic psychology. We also have experts in organisational and political psychology. The research interests of our staff can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\">School of Psychology&#8217;s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We are inviting applications for a number of research scholarships to commence in September 2022. You can apply for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a <strong>Division of Human and Social Sciences Research Scholarship<\/strong>. This scholarship, also known as a <strong>Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA)<\/strong>, is\u00a0for <strong>PhD applicants only<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ESRC\/SeNSS-funded studentships<\/strong> as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/search\/FNADESRC0002\">South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)<\/a>; we welcome applications for <strong>PhD (+3)<\/strong> and <strong>Master\u2019s+PhD (1+3)<\/strong> awards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Master\u2019s and PhD Programmes in Psychology<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/65\/cognitive-psychology-neuropsychology-msc\">Cognitive Psychology\/Neuropsychology MSc<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/76\/cognitive-psychology-neuropsychology\">Cognitive Psychology PhD<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/66\/developmental-psychology\">Developmental Psychology MSc<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/69\/forensic-psychology\">Forensic Psychology MSc<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/77\/forensic-psychology\">Forensic Psychology PhD<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/366\/organisational-and-business-psychology\">Organisational and Business Psychology MSc<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/1206\/political-psychology\">Political Psychology MSc<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/78\/psychology#overview\">Psychology PhD<\/a>*<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/75\/social-psychology\">Social Psychology MSc (taught)<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/79\/social-psychology\">Social Psychology PhD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>*We can offer supervision of projects in the areas of Developmental, Organisational and Political Psychology as part of the Psychology PhD programme.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Division of Human and Social Sciences Research Scholarships (Graduate Teaching Assistantships)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Awardees of such hold a unique position in the University; they are both registered PhD students in receipt of a scholarship and employees of the University. The GTAs will cover tuition fees at the UK rate plus a combined maintenance grant and salary, equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend. The scholarship will be offered for one year in the first instance, renewable for a maximum of three years subject to satisfactory academic performance.<\/p>\n<p>This Division of Human and Social Sciences (HSS) Research Scholarship competition in Psychology is open to applicants from any country. Please note that International students must have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/human-resources\/immigration\/right-to-work\/acceptable-documents.html\">appropriate documentation to evidence eligibility to work in the UK<\/a>. The method of determining\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/finance-student\/FeeAppeals.html\">tuition fee status<\/a> is complex and follows guidelines issued by the UK Council for International Student Affairs. If you are applying as an international candidate, you will have to make up the difference between UK and International fees.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that students who have already started their PhD are not eligible for this scholarship.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>SeNSS ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership Funding<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>SeNSS is one of only 14 UK ESRC-funded Doctoral Training Partnerships and will be offering a number of full-funded ESRC doctoral studentship to start in September 2022. To find out more about eligibility, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/search\/FNADESRC0002\">SeNSS page<\/a>. The awards offer a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend for 2021\/2022 was \u00a315,609\u00a0<strong>2022\/23 to be announced<\/strong>) plus tuition fees at the Home rate and access to further research funding. If you are applying as an international candidate, Kent will waive the difference between Home and International fees.<\/p>\n<p>If a SeNSS +3 applicant has not completed\/is not studying a <a href=\"https:\/\/admin30198.wixsite.com\/compliance\/masters-compliance\">SeNSS approved Master&#8217;s degree<\/a>, additional checks will be needed to ensure that the required research methods training outcomes have been met. SeNSS 1+3 candidates should note that all of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/postgraduate\">taught Master&#8217;s degrees<\/a> are compliant.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Criteria<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To be considered for the scholarships, candidates must hold:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>an Honours degree (First or 2:1). <em>Required for HSS Research Scholarship applicants, SeNSS +3 applicants and SeNSS 1+3 applicants<\/em><\/li>\n<li>a Master\u2019s degree (merit or distinction) from recognised institutions, with first-class marks in research dissertations and research methods (if available). <em>Required for HSS Research Scholarship applicants and SeNSS +3 applicants, optional for SeNSS 1+3 applicants. SeNSS encourages applications from talented students holding undergraduate degrees only, and has ring-fenced 12 studentships for such applicants.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>All candidates must have a background in psychology or a methodologically relevant discipline. Applicants must also provide evidence that they satisfy the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/how-to-apply\/english-language-requirements.html\">University&#8217;s minimum English language requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>All\u00a0<strong>completed<\/strong> applications must be received by <strong>23:59 (UK time) on 2 January 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completed applications must comprise all of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Required for both HSS Research Scholarship and SeNSS Scholarship: <\/strong>Submission of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/pg\/index.html?tab=research-programmes\">KentVision application, made via the online prospectus, for a PhD place (and a taught Master&#8217;s place if applying for a 1+3 award)<\/a> in the School of Psychology at the University of Kent including:\n<ul>\n<li>The name of the proposed supervisor (this should be agreed with the relevant staff member prior to submission)<\/li>\n<li>A transcript of degree undergraduate and postgraduate marks to date and certificate, if completed, in pdf format<\/li>\n<li>The name and email address of two academic referees. Please leave a suitable amount of time for your referees to respond to the reference request which is sent automatically upon submission of the PhD application in KentVision. <strong>References must also be received by 23:59 (UK time) on 2 January 2022.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A current CV in pdf format<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Required for HSS Research Scholarship: <\/strong>Submission of a completed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sac-news-events\/files\/2021\/11\/Division-of-HSS-Research-Scholarship-Application-Form-2022.docx\">Application form for PhD Scholarships<\/a> in pdf format.
