{"id":2720,"date":"2021-02-24T12:27:26","date_gmt":"2021-02-24T12:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/?p=2720"},"modified":"2021-03-26T16:29:18","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T16:29:18","slug":"cafe-psychology-returns-for-the-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/2021\/02\/24\/cafe-psychology-returns-for-the-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"Caf\u00e9 Psychology Returns for the Spring!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">A fortnightly series of talks, with a variety of guest speakers. <\/p>\n<p>Hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/227\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/227\/giner-sorolla-roger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Roger Giner-Sorolla<\/a>, Cafe\u0301 Psychology is a fortnightly talk led by a variety of different speakers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">School of Psychology<\/a>. Each talk is unique, based on either research interests and or hot topics in Psychology!<\/p>\n<p>Psychology student Yunye Chen attended <a style=\"color: #2a6496\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/233\/leach-stefan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" data-bridged-link=\"external\">Dr Stefan Leach&#8217;s <\/a>talk on &#8216;Moral memory bias about the sentience of animals&#8217; in Week 16<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;How Dr Stefan Leach presented his ideas was extremely fascinating. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He presented a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0series of studies<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">explo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">re\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">how people possibly maintain motivated beliefs about animals\u2019 sentience<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Towards the end of the talk, Dr Leach discussed the question of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0whether\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">such motivated beliefs\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">can be said to objectively underestimate or overestimate\u00a0animals\u2019 sentience<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;The session also featured<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0&#8220;a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">brilliant<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0discussion between Dr Leach and the host.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Y<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ou can see how their thoughts were formed and how they were trying to bring knowledge from different studies together to generate new ideas.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;I am very much<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0looking forward to the next talk in two weeks\u2019 time.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strongly recommend<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">you<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">heck<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0it<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">out\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">on<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/moodle.kent.ac.uk\/2020\/course\/view.php?id=3583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Moo<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">dle <\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to review past talks and see what may interest you.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong style=\"text-align: center;font-size: 14px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/padlet.com\/lindseycameron2\/x784cd4gmooqfhh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">View all our events this Spring Term here and join us at the next event!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A fortnightly series of talks, with a variety of guest speakers.
