They statistically analysed international evidence from 37 research studies, concluding that older men and women&#8217;s\u00a0memory and cognitive performance is negatively affected in situations that signal or remind them of negative age stereotypes.<\/p>\n<p>The research, funded by the <a title=\"Economic and Social Research council\" href=\"http:\/\/www.esrc.ac.uk\/\">Economic and Social Research council <i class=\"fa fa-external-link\"><\/i><\/a> (ESRC), was carried out by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/lamontr\/index.html\">Ruth Lamont<\/a>, working with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/swifth\/index.html\">Dr Hannah Swift<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/people\/abramsd\/index.html\">Professor Dominic Abrams<\/a>.
