{"id":212,"date":"2014-08-29T12:37:29","date_gmt":"2014-08-29T12:37:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/?p=212"},"modified":"2015-01-27T12:41:06","modified_gmt":"2015-01-27T12:41:06","slug":"feeling-your-age-in-different-societies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/psychology\/2014\/08\/29\/feeling-your-age-in-different-societies\/","title":{"rendered":"Feeling your age in different societies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New research carried out by psychologists at the University, titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/08870446.2014.938742#.VBcOnvldU40\">&#8216;Being old and ill&#8217; across different countries: social status, age identification and older people&#8217;s subjective health<\/a>, (published in the journal <em>Psychology and Health<\/em>) used data from the European Social Survey. Respondents, who were all aged 70 and over, were asked to self-rate their health.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers, including Dr Hannah Swift, Christopher Bratt and Professor Dominic Abrams, found that those living in societies where older people have lower status were more likely to have a negative subjective view of their health if they identified themselves as &#8216;old&#8217;.
