Meet Jack: Alumni Profile

Tell me a bit about yourself!

I studied Psychology at Kent, where I mostly focused on Social and Child Development. I then moved to Exeter for my Masters and continued to focus on Social Psychology. I enjoy golf and played in my spare time at both Kent and Exeter and have recently started playing Rugby again.

What made you apply to Kent?

I applied to Kent because at the open day I really enjoyed the feel of the campus and what the courses had to offer.

When you first started your Bachelor’s degree here, how were you feeling?

I started my degree during COVID so feelings were a bit muddled and I was nervous about not meeting like-minded friends, instead, I made amazing friends really early on and am still great friends with them now.

Fave thing about the course?

My favourite thing about Kent was how passionate lecturers were for their subject and how much they would help you to follow your own interests, in fact, a lot of the career advice I received was from lecturers.

What are you up to now, and what’s next?

After university I got a job with the Air Accidents Investigation Branch. My role sees me handing the notification of Accidents and supporting inspectors throughout the investigation process. I’m not quite sure what my next steps are and I’m open to new and interesting possibilities.

Advice for your first-year self?

I think that would be my advice to any first years –

“Don’t be too rigid in your plans, explore everything that interests you and when something feels right, just go for it.”
