Taking the next big step in your education is daunting. I know my mind was constantly whirling. Here are a few top tips for things you can do before you start university…
📚Make sure you are organised
- Ensure your accommodation, finances, visa (for international students) and even signing up to the local GP, are sorted before you start uni. This will take the extra weight off your shoulder.
Who doesn’t love stationery? If I could I would buy every piece of stationery available. Remember the essentials, pens, highlighters, lined paper, sticky notes, flashcards, laptop/tablet etc.
🍎Learn to cook some basic meals
- Ensure your diet is as balanced as possible. It’s easy to fall into the trap of splurging out on takeaway food. It’s convenient… but don’t depend on it, your bank account will be very thankful for this. Instead, find nutritious meals that are easy to whip up and fuel you with energy.
💵Start to consider a student budget
- It’s easy to get tempted when you have money sitting in your bank account, but be realistic and be sensible. Aim to set a weekly budget, taking into account your weekly shop, textbook, resources and self-care (e.g gym membership)
And most importantly…
- Use this time to relax before you start uni. Why not start a hobby, project or activity that you wouldn’t have usually had the time for? Spend time with your friends and family and have days where you do absolutely nothing because you can.
