Kent student <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canterburylabour.org.uk\/elections\/alister-brady\/\">Alister Brady,<\/a> in his final year studying philosophy and politics, specialising in political science, stood as the Labour candidate for KCC Councillor for Canterbury City North and won with 43% of the vote -a gain from The Conservatives.<\/p>\n<p>We caught up with him to congratulate him and asked him how it was juggling his time between studying and campaigning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif;color: black\">&#8220;First day today at County hall, the chamber and building are really impressive!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif;color: black\">During the campaign I had a fantastic team, partly made up of Kent Labour Students who worked their socks off! This win is as much theirs as it is mine.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif;color: black\">I used some of what I had learned in our \u2018political behaviour in Britain\u2019 module which assisted in delivering a majority of over 850 votes (total 1951 43%).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3407\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3407\" style=\"width: 684px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/files\/2021\/05\/aLISTER-AND-CHUMS.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-3407\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/files\/2021\/05\/aLISTER-AND-CHUMS.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"684\" height=\"511\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alister campaigning with Harry Mckenzie, Sociology and Criminology student and Gemma Shanahan Politics and International relations Student.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif;color: black\">If I was to say it has been a busy time it would be an understatement. I made sure a large proportion of that time was spent focusing on my dissertation, and thankfully after submission I had just under 3 weeks to hit the streets knocking on hundreds of doors and delivering over 5000 leaflets. During the last two weeks my step count recorded over 280000 steps (over 140 miles).
