While we each have our own take on its origins, the search to find a solution that is acceptable to the majority of Greek and Turkish Cypriots continues to this very day.<\/p>\n<p>Research can play a vital part in helping policy makers understand the concerns and needs of the communities affected by their decisions, and influence the strategies and actions they take.<\/p>\n<p>Up until now, all research into attitudes on the Cyprus Problem and the possible solutions have focussed on the those living on the island.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time, a new survey is also actively seeking the views of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot diasporas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/avesis.metu.edu.tr\/kuscu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>I\u015f\u0131k Ku\u015f\u00e7u-Bonnenfant<\/strong><\/a>, the Principal Investigator of the project, is an Associate Professor of International Relations at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara specialising in diaspora studies and ethnic migration return.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics-international-relations\/people\/522\/loizides-neophytos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Neophytos Loizides<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is the Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/conflict-analysis\/\">Conflict Analysis Research Centre (CARC)<\/a> at the University of Kent, and has worked extensively on Cyprus and peace mediations.<\/p>\n<p>The Diaspora Survey was commissioned by the University of Kent and implemented by METU (for Turkish Cypriots) and the University of Cyprus (for Greek Cypriots).
