As a field-oriented academic, he has edited two books on peacebuilding both featuring Asia:\u00a0<em>Hybrid Peacebuilding in Asia<\/em>\u00a0(Palgrave, 2019) and\u00a0<em>Peacebuilding and Security Sector Governance in Asia\u00a0<\/em>(LIT, 2014). \u00a0As a peace activist, he has established a peacebuilding NGO operating mainly in Timor-Leste and Cambodia, and served as the secretary-general (2002-2004) and the deputy executive director (2002-present).\u00a0As a reflective practitioner,\u00a0he served for the Ministry of Defence and Security of the Timor-Leste as a conflict prevention expert, and was appointed as the Japanese government representative to the Independent Commission on Policing for the Bangsamoro peace process in the Southern Philippines. As a professional trainer, he has been active in civilian peacebuilding training, which has been operated through the Hiroshima Peacebuilders Centre and commissioned by the Japanese Government since 2007. In 2018, he was awarded a testimonial from the Chief of Joint Staff of the Japanese Self-Defence Force for his decade of dedication to education and training of the military officers preparing for peace operations.
