{"id":1207,"date":"2018-11-14T12:03:13","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T12:03:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/?p=1207"},"modified":"2018-11-14T12:03:13","modified_gmt":"2018-11-14T12:03:13","slug":"politics-and-ir-phd-students-attend-workshop-in-rome-on-the-eu-and-resilience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/2018\/11\/14\/politics-and-ir-phd-students-attend-workshop-in-rome-on-the-eu-and-resilience\/","title":{"rendered":"Politics and IR PhD students attend workshop in Rome on &#8216;The EU and resilience&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 9<sup>th<\/sup> November, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uptake.ut.ee\/\">H2020 UPTAKE<\/a> project and <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/gcrf-compass\/\">COMPASS<\/a> organised a workshop together with the Rome-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iai.it\/en\">Istituto Affari Internazionali<\/a> (IAI). The workshop, titled \u201cThe EU and resilience: interrogating theory, policies and practice\u201d brought together over forty participants to reflect on the concept of resilience and its application in the EU\u2019s policies towards the eastern neighbourhood and Central Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Participants included COMPASS team members from all six project institutions; COMPASS Advisory Board members; PhD students from the UPTAKE consortium; and external participants. The key note was delivered by Dr Nathalie Tocci (AB member, Special Adviser to the European Union\u2019s HR\/VP Federica Mogherini, and Director of the IAI). The School of Politics and IR was represented by Nele Ewers-Peters, Chris Henry, Conny Jumel, Elena Korosteleva, Muzaffer Kutlay, Oybek Madiyev, Zhouchen Mao, Luca Mavelli, Zach Paikin, Eske van Gils and Marwa Wasfy.<\/p>\n<p>In each of the three roundtable sessions speakers presented their views on resilience in light of theory; policies; and practice. The presentations were followed by interventions of <em>provocateurs<\/em> and discussions with the whole audience. Specific issues that were raised during the workshop and that will contribute greatly to the formation of the project\u2019s conceptual framework, concerned the different interpretations of \u2018resilience\u2019; the link between resilience and capacity-building, as well as policy impact.
