{"id":1187,"date":"2018-11-08T12:36:31","date_gmt":"2018-11-08T12:36:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/?p=1187"},"modified":"2018-11-08T12:36:31","modified_gmt":"2018-11-08T12:36:31","slug":"book-by-professor-matthew-goodwin-in-top-10-bestseller-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/polir-news\/2018\/11\/08\/book-by-professor-matthew-goodwin-in-top-10-bestseller-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Book by Professor Matthew Goodwin in Top 10 Bestseller list"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">A book co-authored by University Professor Matthew Goodwin is a Sunday Times Top 10 Bestseller (Paperback), just two weeks after publication.<\/p>\n<p>The book, titled\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/National-Populism-Against-Liberal-Democracy\/dp\/0241312000\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1524739060&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=national+populism\">National Populism: The Revolt Against Liberal Democracy<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0explores\u00a0<strong>why populism is now a serious force<\/strong>\u00a0in many Western democracies and is here to stay.<\/p>\n<p>Since publication the work by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/staff\/canterbury\/goodwin.html\">Professor Goodwin<\/a>, of the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/index.html\">School of Politics and International Relations<\/a>, and co-authored by Professor Roger Eatwell (University of Bath) has already received widespread media coverage and positive reviews.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<em>The Economist<\/em>\u00a0it was said to \u2018put a\u00a0<strong>parochial debate in a much bigger context<\/strong>\u00a0\u2026 [ranging] far beyond Brexit and Britain.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>The Sunday Times<\/em>\u00a0said the book was: \u2018A fascinating new study\u2026. The attraction of this book lies in its cool, dispassionate tone.
