The School of Politics & International Relations has had a double success in the first University Research Prizes competition.
Dr Harmonie Toros and Igor Merheim-Eyre have been recognised by the University for their excellent research over the last year.
Dr Toros, who is a lecturer in International Conflict Analysis at the School of Politics and International Relations, has been awarded the University Prize for Early Career Research. Dr Toros’ research lies at the crossroad between conflict resolution/conflict transformation and terrorism studies. She has carried out field research in conflicts in Northern Ireland and the southern Philippine region of Mindanao and is now focusing on conflict resolution/transformation initiatives involving armed groups in Afghanistan. Igor Merheim-Eyre, a PhD candidate at the School of Politics and International Relations, has been awarded the Faculty of Social Sciences Prize for Postgraduate Research. His doctoral thesis is entitled: ‘Managing alienation between spaces: The European Union and the rise of technocratic visa diplomacy in the eastern neighbourhood’. Igor’s research examines the practice of visa diplomacy, and its emergence in the context of European external relations vis-a-vis the Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries.
